The question is how did he get re-elected? Did over 50% America actually want him to be president?

I think you're being a bit unfair on Bush. I mean, really, put yourself in his place. He's got a lot of problems on his hands, not to mention that 9/11 occured less than a year after his being elected to Presidency. He might not be an academic, but I think he knows what he's doing. After all, would the American people themselves really re-elect a complete despot?
